Open Minds marks One Year of Reflect RAP
during National Reconciliation Week

Open Minds is proud to mark the beginning of  National Reconciliation Week 2025 by celebrating the one-year anniversary of its Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP)—a milestone that underscores the organisation’s commitment to reconciliation, inclusion, and cultural respect.

This year’s National Reconciliation Week theme ‘Bridging Now to Next’ calls on all Australians to reflect on the lessons of the past while working together to build a more inclusive future.

Since the launch of its Reflect RAP in May 2024, Open Minds has made significant progress in embedding reconciliation into its operations and culture.

RAP Working Group Executive Lead, Karen Hale-Robertson said that this past year has been about listening, learning, and laying the foundations for long-term change.

“We’ve taken meaningful steps to build cultural awareness, strengthen relationships with First Nations communities, and create a more inclusive workplace. But this is just the beginning—we’re committed to continuing this journey with humility and purpose,” said Karen.

Year in review key achievements:

  • Cultural Representation: RAP artwork displayed across all offices and featured on staff shirts.
  • Cultural Awareness Training: Over 50% of leaders and corporate staff have completed Your Mob cultural training.
  • Cultural Connection: We launched the Mob Community Group, a dedicated space for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees to connect and support one another.
  • Acknowledgement of Country: A unified statement developed by a First Nations team member is now embedded in all meetings and events.
  • Inclusive Recruitment: Launch of a First Nations Recruitment Strategy to promote positive race relations.
  • Community Engagement: Events such as Elder visit, Paint and Yarn session, and participation in NAIDOC Week activities.

The RAP Working Group was also recognised with the Teamwork Award at the 2024 Vertaview Group Staff Excellence Awards, highlighting the collective effort behind these initiatives.

“The Reflect RAP is not just a document—it’s a commitment to action,” said Karen.

“We’re proud of what we’ve achieved, but we know reconciliation is a continuous journey. We invite our partners, customers and clients, and communities to walk with us.”
