Welcoming Jacenta, our newest Behaviour Support Practitioner at Open Minds
Jacenta has recently joined the team at Open Minds as a Behaviour Support Practitioner, covering the Brisbane and Sunshine Coast areas. The team is expanding and has capacity to take on new clients who have Improved Relationships outlined in their NDIS plans.
Jacenta started in Positive Behaviour Support in 2017 when she began implementing behaviour support plans as a support worker for individuals with complex presentations who needed assistance transitioning out of home and/or re-engaging with the community after living in highly restrictive environments.
Inspired by the potential for transformation, Jacenta pursued a role working directly in positive behaviour support in 2019 and has since finished her Bachelor of Social Science (Psychology) in 2020 to support her clinical skills in the space.
Jacenta is passionate about improving the quality of lives of people who experience complex disabilities and/or mental health conditions by using a collaborative approach with individuals, their support networks, and their greater environments.
Jacenta achieves this by actively listening to the person and their stakeholders whilst also assessing the person’s history and environment for barriers to change.
Jacenta is a focused advocate for human rights and aims to reduce the use and impact of restrictive practices in the industry.
The behaviour support plans written by Jacenta are tailored specifically for the person, identify core barriers, recommend innovative strategies, and encourage an action-oriented culture to achieve change both at a behavioural and organisational level for the person and their supports.
Jacenta is dedicated to long term improvement in emotional regulation and quality of life, and thrives on sharing her knowledge through training to inspire others to collaborate.
Jacenta said “I want to see positive change for both my clients and the industry. I am passionate about improving the lives of those who experience a complex disability and/or mental health condition through advocacy, education, collaboration and integration of supports to achieve a common goal: optimum quality of life.”
