Bradley’s Journey
From Youth Worker to Empowering Lives
When Bradley first stepped into the world of human services, he was working as a residential youth worker supporting young people through some of life’s toughest transitions. But it wasn’t long before he felt a deeper calling. “I wanted to help people live a life without many restrictions,” he says, reflecting on what led him to become a support worker with Open Minds in Townsville. That simple yet powerful motivation has shaped his journey ever since.

Bradley fondly remembers one of his first shifts with a client, where he was paired with a seasoned support worker who not only guided him through the day but also took the time to explain the ins and outs of the role. That moment of mentorship left a lasting impression. “It showed me how much teamwork and support matters in this field,” he shares. What fuels him most today is seeing clients with mental health challenges and disabilities achieve their goals, whether big or small.
Since joining Open Minds, Bradley has seen the team grow stronger, more connected, and more collaborative. He’s learned that flexibility is key, especially when working with individuals who may not want to repeat the same routine week after week.
His advice to newcomers? “Every person is different. Give 100% every time and tailor your care to the individual.”
Outside of work, Bradley recharges by gaming, shooting hoops, playing golf, and spending time in nature. And if you ever need a winter swimming buddy, he’s your guy. “I love the cold. Swimming in natural waterholes in winter is refreshing to me!”
