Supporting Culturally and Linguistically Diverse people (CALD)

We pride ourselves on delivering culturally appropriate supports to help you cope with difficulties and manage stress in your community of choice.

All cultures have their own values, beliefs, and accepted ways they interact. At Open Minds, we keep these things in mind when supporting someone from a CALD background. There are a number of ways we can support you or your loved one to access services to enhance their mental health, recovery and wellbeing.  We can help you to connect with your community and meet and share your experiences with others who are Culturally and Linguistically Diverse.

Includes:

  • Assistance with daily activities
  • Connect with support services
  • Connect with groups and activities
  • Identifying personal goals and a plan to reach them
  • Reduce language barriers and assist with communication

Benefits:

  • Be active in the local community
  • Become more confident
  • Join activities
  • Have more life skills

If you speak a language other than English, you can call the Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS National) on 131 450 for support to talk to Open Minds. TIS National covers more than 100 languages and is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for the cost of a local call.

“May has been my support worker for 20 years. May helps with every day things, going to places where I like to go, and doing shopping. I am happy with Open Minds, they keep me happy.”

Interpret the NDIS

Open Minds can help you access NDIS information in other languages. There are also printable brochures, posters and spoken information in other languages to help you get started with NDIS.

We support people living with mental illness, disability or acquired brain injury.

The National Multilingual Disability Hub

There is a new National Multilingual Disability Hub (hotline and website) that is available to assist participants from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse backgrounds who speak another language other than English.

Information for CALD communities:
