    At Open Minds, we work closely with Queensland Corrective Services to provide individualised support and advocacy for individuals re-entering the community from prison or local correctional facilities across the Townsville and North Queensland regions. We are here to help and support our clients every step of the way.

    Navigating the criminal justice system can be challenging, difficult, and mentally straining, which is why the Community Re-Entry Services Team (CREST) at Open Minds can help. We aim to plant the seeds of hope for those in Townsville and its surrounding areas of far north Queensland and support them in avoiding the risk of relapse or re-offending.

    Our CREST team is made up of qualified and compassionate case workers who work tirelessly at the Townsville Male Correctional Centres. Our support starts in custody, where our team will work with people to plan their release. When released, our team will implement the plan, which will help support individuals in their smooth transition back into the community. 

    Our CREST support services are available within Townsville and its surrounding regions of North Queensland, which include:

    services provide?

    • Linking with housing accommodation providers in Townsville or its outlying regions
    • Information about alcohol or other drug counselling, treatment, and education
    • Support and connections to Services Australia and relevant banking services
    • Supporting people through medical or mental health connections
    • Seeking individualised information about physical health and mental wellbeing
    • Providing family and domestic violence support referrals for both survivors and offenders
    • Identifying social support networks
    • Connecting with family and friends
    • Work, education & training planning, and referrals
    • Connecting with culture and spiritual wellbeing
    • Making positive behavioural changes
