NDIS: The Melting Pot a success!

Open Minds hosted a successful NDIS event with guest speaker Lucy Brogden, National Mental Health Commission, and expert panel members, debating how the NDIS market is functioning, views across the sector, and how providers should move forward.

One of the key messages delivered during the event was during Lucy Brogden’s speech: “All Australians should be thriving, not just surviving” 

Panel members consisted of: 

  • Professor Paul Mazerolle, Chair, Open Minds Board
  • Ivan Frkovic, Queensland Mental Health Commissioner
  • Michael Moodie, Adjunt Professor, University of the Sunshine Coast
  • Michelle Hendy, Assistant Director-General, NDIS Program Management Office Department of Communities, Disability Services and Seniors
  • Chris Tanti, Human Services Executive
  • Gerry Naughtin, Strategic Adviser Mental Health, Strategic Advice, Research and Inclusion Division, NDIA

Lucy Brogden’s speech included an overview on the work at the National Mental Health Commission at the national level, and an explanation of how it intersects with the Fifth Plan, the PHNs, and the NDIA.
Panel discussions included topics around:

  • A report card progress update – how we are progressing with the NDIS rollout, both nationally and in Queensland
  • Roadblocks that are affecting the rollout, such as workforce shortages
  • Sector impact and challenges that providers are facing
  • Innovative practices we are seeing – including providers with virtual offices
  • The challenges in service delivery for young people 
  • Looking to the future – what will the NDIS look like in 2025
