The health and wellbeing of our clients is always at the forefront of what we do. Even though measures have been put in place by the Department of Health around social distancing, we know how important is is for our clients to stay connected.

Telehealth options are available, please contact Reception on 1300 696 463 for further information.

Why is social distancing important?

When someone coughs or sneezes they spray small liquid droplets which may contain the virus.

If you breathe these in, you may become infected.

  • Maintain 1.5 metre distance from those around you
  • Avoid visiting crowded places like shopping centres and restaurants
  • Avoid crowds and mass gatherings where it is difficult to keep the appropriate distance away from others
  • Avoid small gatherings in enclosed spaces, for example family celebrations
  • Avoid shaking hands, hugging, or kissing other people
  • Avoid visiting vulnerable people, such as those in aged care facilities or hospitals, infants, or people with compromised immune systems due to illness or medical treatment
  • Always remember to practice good hygiene at this time such as washing hands regularly, especially before meals
  • Don't touch your face with your hands
  • International and Domestic travel is now banned. Keep an eye on the smart traveller alerts for more information.

Still don't understand Social Distancing?  Here is a great short video which displays how quickly the infection can spread, and how easily it stops if you remove yourself from close contact

What is COVID-19 (coronavirus)?

Coronavirus is similar to a common flu and can be spread to other people very easily.  Everyone is talking about it because for some people with poor health or for older people, it can make them very sick.  For most people who get it, they will have flu like symptoms and recover well like with any common flu, however it is important to not spread any germs.

Open Minds are continuing to monitor the developing situation surrounding the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in Australia, which is now a real concern. We have a team of professionals meeting daily to respond to emerging information.

We want to reassure you that the health and safety of our clients and staff is of utmost importance and we are doing everything we can to be proactive, prepared, and to work with the Department of Health to prevent, detect, and contain the spread of the virus.

The situation and guidelines with regard to containment recommendations for COVID-19 are evolving and changing daily so we at Open Minds continue to be vigilant and are monitoring the situation closely.

How COVID-19 spreads

The virus can spread from person to person through:

  • Close contact with a person who has a confirmed case of COVID-19 (including 24-hours before they started showing symptoms)
  • Contact with droplets from a confirmed case of COVID-19 person's cough or sneeze
  • Touching objects or surfaces (such as doorknobs or tables) that have cough or sneeze droplets from a person who has confirmed case of COVID-19, and then touching your mouth or face.
